Dear Fellow Archivist,

It is our pleasure as the executive board of the Society of Indiana Archivists to invite you to attend our annual meeting on the Indiana University Bloomington campus on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30, 2009.

We will begin with a pre-conference workshop on paper conservation Friday afternoon, May 29, at the E. Craig Lingle Preservation Lab, located at 851 N. Range Road in what is rapidly becoming the east campus of IUB. Participants will work with Doug Sanders, the IU Paper Conservator on the basics of paper conservation, handling, and repair.

Concurrent sessions at the Indiana Memorial Union on Saturday will focus on disasters and diversity. Two sessions will look at how to effectively plan for disasters and how to make intelligent decisions once a disaster has struck. Three sessions will explore the amazing diversity of archival work, stretching our understanding of what it means to preserve our past and who we as archivists are. We'll hear from university archivists whose work has extended beyond university records, from a "hip-pocket" archivist, a consulting archivist, and two librarian-archivists who will help us think about the ways in which our various lines of endeavor intersect and reinforce each other as we work to preserve our history and culture.

Our plenary speaker this year is Amanda Wesselmann, associate director of the Lew Wallace Study and Museum in Crawfordsville. Amanda will share the story of how the Lew Wallace Study and Museum has come to be an award-winning site combining museum, archives, outreach, and an extensive education program, now the recipient of a gold National Medal award from the Institute for Museum and Library Science.

We hope that you will join us in Bloomington.
